Privacy Policy

LumeQL is a myth-checking website at www.lumql.com, run by a family. We take everyday beliefs and check them against the evidence. This page explains, in plain English, what information we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. In this policy, “we” means the people who run LumeQL.
What we collect
- When you create an account: your name, email address and password. We never store your actual password, only a scrambled (hashed) version that lets us check it when you sign in. If you choose, you can also add a profile photo and a short bio.
- When you sign in: a login session. Alongside it we store when it started, your IP address and your browser type, so we can keep you signed in and spot misuse.
- What you do with your account: the myths you save and your votes in myth polls.
- When you submit a myth: the myth itself and, if you add it, where you heard it. If you’re not signed in, you can also give us your email so we can tell you when it’s been checked. If you are signed in, the submission is linked to your account instead.
- When you join our email list: your email address.
- When you visit: like most websites, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, keeps basic visit logs (such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) and uses security data to block attacks and spam.
How we use it
- To run your account: signing you in, keeping you signed in and helping you reset your password.
- To review the myths you send in and, if you asked, let you know what we found.
- To count poll votes and remember the myths you saved.
- To send emails you signed up for.
- To keep the site secure and working.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it with anyone so they can advertise to you.
Cookies
Today we only use cookies the site needs to work:
- A login cookie that keeps you signed in.
- If you vote in a poll while signed out, a cookie with a random ID so each person’s vote counts once. It lasts up to a year and doesn’t contain your name or email.
- Cloudflare may set a security cookie to help tell people apart from bots.
We don’t use analytics or advertising cookies right now. We may add analytics, such as Google Analytics, or ads, such as Google AdSense, in the future. If we do, we’ll update this policy first, and visitors in the EU and UK will be asked for their consent where the law requires it.
Affiliate links
Some pages may include affiliate links, for example to Amazon through the Amazon Associates program. If you buy something through one of these links, we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases. It costs you nothing extra.
Children
LumeQL is meant for a general audience. Accounts are for people aged 13 and older, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you’re a parent and believe your child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us at Mythsbursters@gmail.com and we’ll delete it.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your account information for as long as your account is open. You can ask us at any time to delete your account and the personal information linked to it, or to remove your email from our email list. Just email Mythsbursters@gmail.com from the address on your account, and we’ll take care of it.
Other companies involved
Cloudflare hosts the website, its database and uploaded images. If we add Google services, such as Google Analytics or Google AdSense, or Amazon affiliate links, those companies will handle some data under their own privacy policies, and we’ll list them here.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top.
